Jerry Gogosian's Architect of Gossip Found Dead in São Paulo
Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, the art-world figure who created the Jerry Gogosian persona, was found dead May 31 in a Rosewood São Paulo hotel room. The body was discovered by her plastic surgeon; police are treating the death as suspicious after pills, an empty vodka bottle, and broken glass were found at the scene. Helphenstein had built a multimedia presence around Jerry Gogosian, including a Los Angeles gallery, a podcast, and the Jerry Report newsletter, and had announced last year that she was stepping away from the persona. An investigation is ongoing.
