Nor'easter Storm Reveals 1884 Warren Sawyer Shipwreck Fragments on Nantucket Shore
A powerful nor'easter in late September 2026 stripped away sand on Nantucket's south shore, exposing wooden timbers believed to be from the schooner Warren Sawyer. The vessel, which sank in 1884, was carrying cotton and scrap iron from New Orleans to Boston when gale-force winds blew it off course. While the crew was rescued at the time, the newly exposed artifacts are now vulnerable to rapid decay due to their exposure to the elements.
