Ron Hunt, Scrappy MLB Veteran Known for Being Plunked, Dies at 85
Ron Hunt, a scrappy MLB second baseman known for getting hit by pitches, has died at 85. In 12 MLB seasons with the Mets, Dodgers, Giants and Expos, Hunt was a two-time All-Star (1964, 1966), finished runner-up for NL Rookie of the Year, and posted a .272/.334/.396 line with 39 homers in 1,483 games. He became famous for taking HBPs—setting a modern-era mark with 50 HBPs in one Montreal season—and ended his career with 1,483 games, 1,429 hits, 745 runs, 370 RBIs, 555 walks and 243 HBPs.
