Capturing Lightning from an Aerial Perspective: ESA's Stunning Footage
ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen will use a special camera on the Huginn mission to film thunderstorms and capture lightning phenomena, such as blue jets and red sprites, that occur in the upper atmosphere. The camera, called the Davis camera, uses 'event-based' technology to capture lightning events that are over in a millisecond. Scientists hope that these images will provide insights into how these phenomena develop and interact with the upper atmosphere, as well as their impact on greenhouse gases and aerosols in a changing climate.
