Revolutionizing Gut Health: A Breakthrough Method for Analyzing the Human Microbiome
Researchers at Caltech have developed a new method called microbial enrichment method (MEM) to isolate microbial cells from host cells in the human gut. This method selectively lyses host cells, allowing for a more accurate analysis of the gut microbiome. MEM performed well in comparison to other techniques and enabled high-throughput metagenomic characterization from host-rich samples. The use of MEM followed by shotgun sequencing could provide a deeper understanding of the gut microbiome's role in human health and disease.
