Belgium and Iran conduct successful prisoner swap.
Iran has released Belgian humanitarian worker Olivier Vandecasteele, who had been detained for over a year, in exchange for convicted terrorist Assadollah Assadi, who had been imprisoned in Belgium. The Belgian government used an article from the constitution to rule over foreign policy matters, making the exchange possible. No ransom was paid to free Vandecasteele. Vandecasteele had been sentenced to 40 years in prison over four different charges, which the Belgian government had said were "fabricated."
