Des Moines Ex-Superintendent Sentenced to Two Years Before Deportation
Former Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Ian Roberts was sentenced to two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to immigration and weapons charges, including lying about citizenship and possessing firearms without status; four guns were found in his car and home, with a loaded handgun in his district-issued car. He resigned in 2025 after an ICE arrest and, after serving his sentence, is set for expedited deportation to Guyana, with time already served credited. Prosecutors sought 37 months, while defense asked for probation.
