Authorities seized a 750-pound, 11-foot alligator named Albert Edward from a home in Hamburg, N.Y., after determining that it was being kept illegally. The alligator, blind in both eyes and with spinal problems, had been with its owner for 34 years. The owner, Tony Cavallaro, had a license for the alligator, but it had expired in 2021. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation stated that it is illegal to own an alligator in New York without a license for specific purposes, and public contact with the animal is prohibited.
