"Reimbursement Opportunities for Hyundai and Kia Owners in Theft Lawsuit Settlement"
Kia and Hyundai car owners affected by vehicle thefts from 2011 to 2022 can claim part of a $145 million settlement, following a class action suit alleging the automakers' failure to install immobilizers. Notices will be sent out next week, with a deadline to submit claims by Jan. 11, 2025. The settlement will cover out-of-pocket expenses related to theft, and software upgrades and steering wheel locks are being offered to enhance vehicle security. The court's final approval hearing is scheduled for July 15, 2024, and the automakers have taken steps to address the issue, including distributing free steering wheel locks and developing an ignition cylinder protector.
