French President Emmanuel Macron has called for an international taxation system to finance climate efforts, suggesting measures such as a tax on financial transactions or an extra fee on airline tickets. Macron's call may also be a way of spurring talks on a shipping levy at the International Maritime Organization ahead of a meeting next month. While the initiative is still in its early stages, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said such initiatives should be launched early in order to be successful.
