British-born artist David Hockney, who moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s and became famous for painting sun‑drenched pools and palm-lined landscapes, died at his London home on Thursday at age 88, with death confirmed by publicist Erica Bolton. A prolific innovator across painting, photography, film and digital media, he celebrated LA’s light and leisure while also pursuing Yorkshire landscapes and large‑scale multimedia works. LA’s Los Angeles County Museum of Art holds more than 150 Hockney works, and he remained relentlessly curious and experimental into his later years.
