Jaakko Ohtonen steps in as Jesus in Gibson’s Resurrection of the Christ — first look released
Lionsgate released the first look at The Resurrection of the Christ, revealing Jaakko Ohtonen as Jesus after recasting Jim Caviezel due to the need for de-aging. Mary Magdalene is now played by Mariela Garriga, with Monica Bellucci out. The project will be released in two parts, with Part One opening May 6, 2027 and Part Two following May 25, 2028; Gibson produced the $30 million film, calling it a longtime mission and ambitiously planned.
