Stunt Veteran James Lew, Iconic in John Carpenter Films and Rush Hour Series, Dies at 73
James Lew, a veteran stunt performer and coordinator who worked with John Carpenter on Big Trouble in Little China, They Live and Escape From L.A., and played a memorable martial-arts instructor in Hot Shots! Part Deux, died at 73. His wife Jordana Potter announced the death; no cause was disclosed. Lew contributed stunts to the Rush Hour films and earned an Emmy for Luke Cage in 2017, and he was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame in 2024.
