Convicted lawyer James Ray III dies in custody before sentencing.
James Ray III, a New Jersey lawyer convicted of murdering his girlfriend in 2018 and fleeing to Cuba, has died while awaiting sentencing. Ray was found unconscious in his cell and pronounced dead at a hospital. He faced 30 years to life in prison for the murder of Angela Bledsoe. Ray argued he acted in self-defense, but prosecutors said Bledsoe was planning to move out and meet with a realtor the day she was killed.
