No private MenB jab needed as Kent meningitis outbreak is managed, says Streeting
UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting says the public does not need to buy private meningitis B vaccines during the Kent outbreak; a targeted MenB vaccination program for University of Kent students and antibiotics distribution are in place, with the overall risk to the public deemed low. About 5,000 students in Kent halls are being offered the MenB jab, while 2,500 antibiotic doses have been distributed; the outbreak has around 20 confirmed or suspected cases and two deaths. Officials may reconsider a wider catch-up vaccination program based on JCVI guidance.
