Jenkintown Halts Varsity Football After Two Games Due to Roster Shortages
The Jenkintown School District in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, has abruptly ended its varsity football season for 2026 after playing only two games. Officials cited insufficient roster size and inconsistent player participation as primary safety concerns, stating that the team could not safely field a squad for full games. While varsity competition is canceled, the district will continue offering practices, skill development, and strength conditioning to remaining students. Coaches aim to recruit more players to rebuild a competitive team for future seasons. This decision mirrors similar cancellations at Harriton High School and other districts nationwide due to player shortages.
