Mamdani Launches Permanent Walk-In Jobs Center to Tackle 14,000 City Vacancies
Mayor Zohran Mamdani is opening a permanent walk-in center at 2 Lafayette St. to help New Yorkers navigate public-sector hiring. The center addresses a 4.68% vacancy rate across city agencies, with the Department of Social Services facing a 14.87% shortfall. It aims to streamline the civil service process, which can take six months to complete, and will host hiring halls for agencies like ACS and NYC Health + Hospitals.
