Gopher Baseball Legend John Anderson Dies at 71

John Anderson, the winningest coach in Big Ten baseball history and a 49-year staple of Minnesota baseball, died at 71. He spent 43 years as head coach (1981–2024) with a 1,390-1,021-3 record, led the Gophers to 38 winning seasons and 31 30-win campaigns, and guided 20 Big Ten Tournament finals appearances and 19 NCAA postseason trips. A multiple Coach of the Year and Hall of Fame inductee, Anderson mentored dozens of All-Big Ten selections and numerous future MLB players; his No. 14 was retired in 2024. He was set to receive the ABCA/Wilson Lefty Gomez Award in 2027. Anderson’s body was donated for organ donation, and funeral services are pending; he is survived by his wife Jan and daughter Erin.

Toby Keith, who passed away on February 5, has been posthumously announced as one of the 2024 inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Alongside him, John Anderson and James Burton will also be inducted. Keith, a renowned songwriter, will be inducted in the Modern Era Artist category, while Anderson and Burton will be inducted in the Veteran Era Artist and Recording and/or Touring Musician categories, respectively. The induction ceremony is set to take place in October.

ESPN's John Anderson Apologizes for Tasteless Joke About Golden Knights' Zach Whitecloud

ESPN anchor John Anderson apologized to Las Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Zach Whitecloud for making an insensitive joke about his last name during a "SportsCenter" segment. Whitecloud's last name is part of his Sioux Valley Dakota Nation heritage, and he is the first member of his nation to play in the NHL. Anderson apologized less than 24 hours later and reached out to the Golden Knights to personally apologize to Whitecloud.
