Taiwan opposition's bid for joint presidential candidate collapses
Plans for Taiwan's opposition parties to field a joint presidential candidate have failed as two parties dispute the interpretation of opinion polls used to select a nominee. The poll-of-polls results were released by a foundation led by former President Ma Ying-jeou, with the intention of choosing between the Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) candidates. The opposition's nominee was supposed to compete in the presidential elections scheduled for January 13.
