Royals DFA Strahm and Velazquez in bullpen reshuffle
Kansas City designated left-hander Matt Strahm and infielder Andrew Velazquez for assignment after Bobby Witt Jr. was reinstated from the injured list and José Cuas was recalled; Strahm, who signed for $7.5 million in the Bowlan trade, has a 7.32 ERA with an 18.6% strikeout rate and an 8.7% walk rate this season, and his declining velocity has left him vulnerable, making a claim unlikely and sending him toward free agency. Velazquez had a brief MLB stint and is expected to clear waivers or accept a Triple-A assignment as Kansas City moves on with its bullpen for the rest of the season.
