Retired Judge Chitty to Hear Karmelo Anthony's New Trial Motion After Roach Recusal
Retired District Judge Michael Chitty has been assigned to preside over Karmelo Anthony's motion for a new trial in the 2025 murder of Austin Metcalf. This follows the recusal of Judge John Roach, who presided over the original trial, after a hearing on Wednesday where Judge Sid Harle ruled that Roach's public comments created an appearance of bias. Anthony, who was convicted of stabbing Metcalf at a Frisco track meet and sentenced to 35 years, is seeking a retrial based on claims of trial access restrictions and prosecutorial misconduct. The new trial hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 9 a.m.
