Ford frames July sales dip as strategic reset for new models
Ford Motor reported a 10.2% year-over-year decline in July U.S. vehicle sales but said the drop was intentional as it sunsets select models (including the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair) and trims low-margin rental-fleet volume to make room for a wave of new-product introductions by year-end. The company prioritized retail F-Series sales amid a production recovery after aluminum-supplier fires, with rental sales down 96% from a year earlier. Year-to-date through July, Ford is down 9.7%, contributing to an auto industry decline of about 2-3% in the first half; analysts expect the market to fall about 3% for the year as prices and consumer concerns persist.
