Portland's Parallel Parking Competition Doubles in Size, Draws Hundreds to Kerns Neighborhood
The second annual Portland Parallel Parking Competition drew approximately 94 competitors and over 200 spectators to a residential street in the Kerns neighborhood of Southeast Portland on August 30, 2026. Organized by Daniel Lyman and Stefanie Lynch, the event grew significantly from last year's 40-person turnout following national media coverage. Participants were scored on time, curb distance, and vehicle length, with PBOT sponsoring parking vouchers and judges including a local drag queen and a meteorologist. Kyle Kaufman won the grand prize, a gold spray-painted miniature Subaru, after a winners' tournament. The event highlighted community engagement and the city's quirky culture, with attendees traveling from Corvallis and other areas to participate or spectate.
