The HBO Max spin-off 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' premieres as a direct sequel to 'The Big Bang Theory,' starring Kevin Sussman and John Ross Bowie, who originally auditioned for the lead roles of Sheldon and Leonard. The multiverse comedy, created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, has already been renewed for a second season.
Deadline reports that Chuck Lorre chose Kevin Sussman’s Stuart Bloom—the Big Bang Theory’s most unlikely hero—as the lead of the new spin-off Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, joking that Bloom was “the absolute worst choice” for a hero, which Lorre says makes him the perfect lead. Sussman says leading a spin-off wasn’t in his plans, but he’s on board. The series follows Stuart stopping a multiverse armageddon and teaming with friends Bert, Denise, and Kripke across alternate universes, premiering on HBO Max this Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.
