Kai Labban, the 'windowsill baby,' returns to Kibbutz Nirim on third birthday
Kai Labban, the infant who became a global symbol of survival after the October 7, 2023 attacks, has returned to his family’s home in Kibbutz Nirim. The child, now three years old, was placed in a safe room windowsill by his parents during the Hamas assault. His image went viral, prompting international aid. The family, who suffered severe smoke inhalation and injuries, chose to return to the kibbutz in August 2025, defying concerns about safety. Aimee Labban, Kai’s mother, stated that the community remains their home despite the trauma and PTSD they continue to experience.
