Nirvana Accepts Long-Overdue Video Vanguard Award at 2026 VMAs
Nirvana received the MTV Video Vanguard Award at the 2026 VMAs, a recognition that had been delayed for over three decades. Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl, and Pat Smear accepted the honor at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with Novoselic delivering a speech honoring Kurt Cobain's vision and the band's enduring authenticity. The ceremony marked the first time the grunge icon received the award, despite their massive impact on music video culture in the 1990s. The event coincided with the 35th anniversary of their album 'Nevermind' and followed a period where the surviving members had not performed together since 2014.
