Century-old TB vaccine lowers insulin needs in autoimmune diabetes (trial)
A phase II trial found that the century-old Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccine reduced insulin requirements in people with autoimmune diabetes (LADA and juvenile-onset type 1), with treated participants using about 3% less insulin over five years vs. a 22% increase in the placebo group, suggesting immune activation by BCG can slow beta-cell deterioration and improve blood-sugar management.
