Body of 5-year-old swept into Laguna Beach surf recovered amid high surf warnings
The body of a 5-year-old girl swept into rough Laguna Beach surf during powerful water conditions has been recovered. The child was with her mother and sibling when a wave knocked them into the ocean; bystanders rescued the mother and the other child. The Coast Guard conducted a search of more than 90 square miles for over 30 hours before the body was found by Laguna Beach Marine Safety with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol. Elevated surf and rip currents had prompted beach hazard warnings.
