Lake Effect Snowstorm Buries Upstate NY in Record Snowfall, Causing Traffic Chaos
Upstate New York experienced its first lake effect storm of the season, resulting in significant snowfall. The town of Highmarket in Lewis County recorded the highest snowfall total of 42.7 inches, while several other locations in Tug Hill and Western New York saw over 20 inches. Central New York received a maximum of about 6 inches. The storm led to closures, cancellations, and delays in school districts, as well as numerous reported crashes. Snow is still falling in some areas, with the possibility of increased snowfall over the next 24 hours.
