"Governor Polis Fast-tracks Affordable Housing Funding to Meet State Growth Goals"

Colorado Governor Jared Polis has signed an executive order aimed at expediting affordable housing development in the state. The order requires the Division of Housing to reduce the time it takes to provide loans and grants to approved recipients from an average of eight months to 90 days. While the order does not allocate additional funding, it aligns with Polis' broader objectives of increasing housing density and availability statewide. The order also includes 10 growth goals for state agencies to prioritize, such as cutting down on sprawl and focusing on efficient development. The move comes as discussions on land-use reform are set to resume in the state legislature.

"Colorado lawmakers push for property tax relief and land use restoration"

A Colorado House committee has advanced a partially restored land use reform bill that would force local governments to allow accessory dwelling units, approve more dense residential development in some areas near rail transit stations and along frequent bus lines, and reduce minimum parking requirements in certain areas. The bill was initially a sweeping measure that would’ve forced many local governments to allow varying degrees of denser homes in all residential neighborhoods, but the Senate gradually trimmed those mandatory upzoning requirements before eliminating them entirely last week. The House Transportation, Housing & Local Government Committee has brought back some of those provisions. The bill now moves on to the House Appropriations Committee.
