"Debunking the Cognitive Benefits of Meditation and Language Learning"
A new study suggests that meditation and foreign language training do not improve cognitive function in cognitively healthy older adults. The findings contradict previous research that showed cognitive benefits from these interventions. The study involved 135 French-speaking, retired individuals aged 65 or older, who underwent 18 months of either English-language training, meditation, or served as a control group. No significant changes in cognition were observed with either intervention compared to the control group or each other. The researchers plan to continue studying the long-term effects of these interventions.
