Malibu sinkhole forces evacuations, closes Lechuza Beach indefinitely
A massive sinkhole opened beneath the driveway of actor Nicolas Cage’s Malibu beachfront home on September 8, 2026, triggering evacuations of 31 properties and an indefinite closure of nearby Lechuza Beach. The collapse, attributed to coastal erosion from Hurricane Marie, has blocked emergency access and prompted a local emergency declaration, with repairs expected to take five weeks.
