
Kai Wagner Rejoins Union as Designated Player
Philadelphia Union re-sign left back Kai Wagner from Birmingham City on a contract through 2028-29 (with a 2029-30 option) and designate him as a Designated Player, completing the deal by moving to the top of the waiver order and trading $100,000 in 2026 GAM to Sporting KC for a 2026 international roster spot and the 22nd waiver position. Wagner returns to Philly after seven seasons (2019-25) with 10 goals and 54 assists in 253 matches, helping the club win the 2020 and 2025 MLS Supporters' Shields; he had 1g/3a in 18 games for Birmingham. He called returning home meaningful and is eager to contribute under interim head coach Ryan Richter.
