Xbox hardens licensing backbone after outage, pledges reliability upgrades
Microsoft says July’s outage was caused by an external licensing service failure that disrupted entitlement checks, library access, and game launches, worsened by a bug in the Xbox client. The licensing service is being moved to the Xbox team and the infrastructure is being hardened for future updates. The client fix is rolling out now and becomes mandatory on August 17, with engineers planning broader reliability improvements and new features in the weeks ahead.
