Parents Arrested in Death of 5-Year-Old Who Wandered From Pawleys Island
In Georgetown County, South Carolina, the parents of 5-year-old nonverbal Saylor Hayes, who wandered from a Pawleys Island rental and was later found dead in nearby water, were arrested in Carter County, Tennessee on charges of unlawfully placing a child at risk or willfully abandoning a child. Investigators say the girl had worn a monitoring device, which was removed before the family left Virginia, and a multi-agency search found her body around 9:45 a.m. The sheriff emphasized the case is now in the judicial process and urged respecting the presumption of innocence.
