Florida Man Convicted of Locking Son in Box, Found Guilty of Child Abuse
A Florida man, Tim Ferriter, has been convicted of child abuse, false imprisonment, and neglect of a child after being accused of locking his adopted 14-year-old son in a small structure in the garage. The boy reported being locked in the 8-by-8-foot structure for up to 18 hours at a time. Ferriter's wife, Tracy, is awaiting trial. The couple was arrested after their son was reported as a runaway, and police discovered the locked structure with a video camera. Defense attorneys argued that Ferriter's actions were a result of frustration and poor parenting decisions, but prosecutors have not yet determined the sentence they will seek.
