Dutch Central Bank Relocates 86 Tonnes of Gold to London Amid Geopolitical Tensions
The Dutch central bank (DNB) has relocated 86 tonnes of gold from the US and Canada to London, citing 'geopolitical unrest' and the need for crisis preparedness. The move, executed between March and August 2026, combines physical transport with buying and selling to mitigate risks. London now holds 32.1% of the Netherlands' 612.4-tonne gold stock, valued at €72.2 billion, while New York and Ottawa each hold 18.5%. DNB President Olaf Sleijpen stated the shift improves deployability in a crisis, though the bank expects never to need to deploy the gold.
