US designates Ecuadorian gang as foreign terrorist organization in widening crackdown
The State Department designated Los Tiguerones, an Ecuador-based gang linked to narcotrafficking and violence including a 2024 live TV-station takeover, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, expanding the U.S. list of Latin American groups to 21 and aiming to cut off financial support and intensify regional security efforts during a South American tour by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
