Samsung Introduces LPCAMM: Revolutionary Memory Modules for PCs and Laptops
Samsung has introduced LPCAMM, a new standard for removable and modular LPDDR memory. LPCAMM is based on the Compression Attached Memory Module (CAMM) standard and allows for modular and swappable LPDDR5 memory. The LPCAMM form factor is incompatible with CAMMs but pursues the same ideas for their respective memory types. Samsung plans to release LPCAMM modules in 2024, offering capacities of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB with data rates up to LPDDR5X-7500. LPCAMMs provide a flexible amount of low-power memory for laptops and servers, allowing for customization and memory upgrades. However, LPCAMMs are not expected to replace soldered LPDDR memory entirely. Standardization efforts are underway, and Samsung is working with partners to establish a JEDEC standard for LPCAMMs.
