Moon Power Gets a Makeover: Regenerative Fuel Cells Tackle Lunar Night
NASA is testing regenerative fuel cells to store power for Artemis on the Moon, using hydrogen and oxygen produced from water to run the cells and recharge from the same water, addressing the long two-week lunar nights and tight payload budgets better than batteries; the plan may leverage water ice at the Moon's South Pole, and NASA is also pursuing a 100-kilowatt lunar reactor by 2030 as a backup power source.
