South Africa faces deadly week as 27 killed in twin township shootings
At least 27 people were killed and over 20 wounded in two separate shootings in South African townships on Saturday and Sunday. The first attack at a tavern in Wedela, southwest of Johannesburg, left 17 dead and 15 injured, while a second incident at a store in Lwandle near Cape Town killed 10 and wounded 11. Police are searching for eight suspects in the first case, described as armed with AK-47s and pistols, and multiple suspects in the second. These incidents follow a mass shooting in Durban that killed 11 people earlier in the week, highlighting a surge in violent crime in urban areas.
