Germany and Intel have signed an agreement to build two semiconductor facilities in Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt, costing an estimated €30bn and creating around 3,000 jobs. The project had been in doubt due to concerns over government funding and Intel's poor financial figures in the last quarter. The German government is expected to provide roughly one-third of the project's value, or just under €10bn. The Magdeburg semiconductor factories will be part of a larger high-tech business park dubbed "Silicon Junction," and are part of a broader push to set up more chip and semiconductor production capacity in the EU.
