James McAvoy’s Directorial Debut 'California Schemin' Hits Theaters October 9
The official trailer for James McAvoy’s feature directorial debut, 'California Schemin', has been released by The Hollywood Reporter. The film, produced by Bob Yari’s Magenta Light Studios, is set for a wide theatrical release on October 9. It adapts the true story of two Scottish rappers who successfully con their way into the American hip-hop scene in the early 2000s by falsely claiming to be from California. The project marks McAvoy’s first time behind the camera after a 30-year acting career, following its premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
