Canva apologized after its new AI feature Magic Layers accidentally changed the phrase “cats for Palestine” to “cats for Ukraine” in some designs. The bug seemed limited to the word Palestine and has been fixed, with Canva saying it will add checks to prevent recurrence as it competes with Adobe’s AI design tools.
Canva has launched Magic Layers in public beta, a feature that splits a single-page PNG/JPG into editable layers so users can adjust individual objects, text, and graphics without re-prompting the AI. It works with any flat image (not just AI outputs) and preserves the original layout, aiming to outpace rivals like Adobe in layer separation. The move could blur the line between AI-generated and handmade designs as more layers become visible.
