
Manny Fernandez, cornerstone of the 1970s Dolphins, dies at 79
Former Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Manny Fernandez, who joined the AFL-era Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 1968 and spent his entire career with Miami, died at 79. He helped the Dolphins win back-to-back Super Bowls after the 1972 and 1973 seasons and was part of the undefeated 1972 team. Unofficially credited with 35 regular-season sacks and 4.5 playoff sacks (sacks weren’t officially recorded until 1982); he was inducted into the Dolphins’ Honor Roll in 2014.
