Final masts of WWII bomb-laden shipwreck removed in Thames Estuary
The final masts of the SS Richard Montgomery, a WWII shipwreck carrying 1,400 tons of explosives in the Thames Estuary, have been successfully removed. The operation, which cost £9.5 million, was undertaken to prevent the masts from collapsing onto the deteriorating hull and triggering a detonation. The masts will now be conserved and displayed in Kent.
