Barcelona has announced the departure of Mateu Alemany as sporting director for the second time this year, with Deco officially named as his replacement. The timing and tone of the announcement were unexpected, catching senior figures at the club off guard. Alemany's departure is linked to the arrival of Deco and a new structure within the sporting direction of the club. There is no confirmation on whether Alemany will take on a new role at the club or leave permanently.
