Leafs appoint Chayka as GM and Sundin as front-office adviser
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced a major front-office overhaul, naming John Chayka as general manager and Mats Sundin as senior executive adviser of hockey operations, with Chayka reporting to MLSE CEO Keith Pelley. Chayka returns to the NHL after leaving the Coyotes amid sanctions in 2020, while Sundin—one of the franchise’s all-time greats—will focus on culture, player development and leadership as he relocates to Toronto. The moves aim to build a championship-caliber team after missing the playoffs this season; a news conference is scheduled for Monday.
