Ancient Sudanese Body Reveals Surprising 'Christ' Tattoo
Archaeologists in Sudan have discovered a 1,300-year-old tattoo referencing Jesus Christ on a body found near a medieval monastery. The tattoo features the Chi-Rho symbol, along with the Greek letters alpha and omega, representing Christ and the Christian belief in God as the beginning and end of everything. The location of the tattoo on the right foot is intriguing, as it aligns with the crucifixion narrative. The individual was likely a Christian, but it remains unclear if they were a monk. Radiocarbon dating suggests they lived between 667 and 774, a time when Christianity was prevalent in the region. The discovery was made during excavations conducted between 2012 and 2018.
