Video reveals Guard troops aimed weapons at dying man in Memphis
Shelby County prosecutors released body camera and street footage showing Tennessee National Guard members pointing handguns at Tyrin Johnson as he lay dying on a Memphis sidewalk after being shot in the back. The 20-year-old died from a single gunshot wound on July 5, 2025, during a federal task force operation. While guard reports claim Johnson pointed a weapon at them, an autopsy contradicts this, stating he was shot from behind. District Attorney Steve Mulroy has not yet decided whether to file charges, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation continues its inquiry into the incident.
